Chapter 2  : Chapter 2  : The Super Mutation System Ding! [?Super Mutation System?has been awakened ]

“... Eh?” Ling Yi looked in disbelief, “A system!?”

He was stunned as he stared at the golden words that appeared in front of him. After the notification registered inside his brain, Ling Yi couldn’t help but leap in excitement.

“System, tell me about your functions!”

[This system can upgrade all kinds of foreign objects in the direction of the host’s desire.] The robotic voice dutifully replied. [Different items have different mutation potentials and are divided into five grades: low, medium, high, exorbitant, and perfect.]

[The higher the mutation grade, the greater the range of the mutation option and the more mutation points consumed. However, the same item can only be mutated once.]

Ling Yi waited a little longer, almost half expecting the robotic voice to continue its explanation. And in the midst of silence, the magnitude of the system he received dawned on him.

“A mutation...”

The system’s message was easy to understand.

He could upgrade an object’s, or maybe even something else’s, potential in any way he wanted.

But, the greater the upgrade, the more points he would have to consume.

And as for what it does specifically… Well, he had to test it out to find out.

However, in order to do that, he still needed to collect mutation points.

“System, how do I obtain these points?”

[The host can collect them from the emotions of nearby units. A hundred emotional points can be converted into one mutation point.]

Immediately, a simple number column hologram appeared.

[Current collected, distress points: 100]

Oh? I already have 100 points now?‘ Ling Yi wondered.

“Is this part of the beginner’s bonus?”

There was no reply. It made him realize that this system wasn’t one of those artificially intelligent ones.

I guess it’s a good thing it’s not an A.I..‘ He sighed, part of him still a little disappointed. But, he quickly brushed it off and perked up.

Ling Yi looked around his house with an intense gaze.

[Old television – Mutation Potential: Low (mutation not recommended)]

[Old sofa – Mutation Potential: Low]

[Old table – Mutation Potential: Low]

[Brand new toothbrush – Mutation Potential: Low ]

...

Now that you think about it,‘ Ling Yi thought aloud. He had been walking around his house twice now and finally came to an abrupt stop. ‘Other than the toothbrush, toothpaste, and other stuff that I bought, the rest of this stuff doesn’t really belong to me.‘

“What kind of upgrade am I expecting from these ordinary objects, anyway? No wonder they all have low mutation value,” He began pacing back and forth in the room.

If I want to upgrade something, shouldn’t items benefiting the game have more value?‘

His gaze unconsciously landed on the gift bag he left on the table.

A pink letter also floated out when he took out the two items inside.

“Hm? What’s this?”

Picking up the letter, Ling Yi could still smell a faint fragrance resembling a plum flower’s blooming.

There was only a single-line note with beautiful handwriting on the paper.

“May you return to your youth after a thousand sails.”

Ling Yi was stunned at those words, or better yet, confused.

But it quickly glided off his mind. He didn’t think much about it.

Out of habit, he looked at the back of the letter and was surprised to find that there were more written on the back:

To increase the number of local players in the Divine Union’s Foreign Aid, we bring you our ‘Genius Plan’!

[Range: all new June players of Qianjiang City]

[Requirement: the first five players must reach level 10]

Anyone who fulfilled the above requirements could become a member of the Foreign Aid of the local Divine Union branch.

[Friendly reminder: please go to your local branch as soon as you reach level 10!]

Oh? Extra help from the Divine Union?‘ Ling Yi’s eyes lit up.

He had accidentally heard the men next door talking earlier today and learned that being in the Divine Union’s Foreign Aid was a good part-time job.

The Divine Union had its own permanent members. These people were the ones who took action when something happened.

It was only in the case of a lack of workforce that they would call players outside of their organization for help, which was not very often for them to do. And these actions themselves did not happen daily.

So, they hardly, if ever, take new members in a year.

However, every time they took action, the Foreign Aid would receive a considerable amount of money.

So, it was not surprising that this rare opportunity tempted Ling Yi.

“I only have the 1 000 gold coins from the subsidy. I’ll have to try my best to get this part-time job. It’s better to have this status on my profile than nothing at all.” He muttered as he rubbed his chin.

There were many benefits of being in Foreign Aid. Mostly it would give the player a higher priority.

When the Divine Union needed help, they would send requests to most players. If a player had “Foreign?Aid” on their status, they would be given priority to receive missions and quests from them.

If he didn’t have this status, he would have to compete with the millions of other people who wanted to help the organization.

After all, the spot for helping the Foreign Aid was limited, and so was the reward.

Ling Yi put down the letter and picked up the beginner health potion and stamina pill to take a closer look.

[Beginner health potions – Mutation Potential: Medium]

[Physical strength pill – Mutation Potential: Medium]

At this moment, Ling Yi realized a flaw in his mutation system.

He had no detection or analytical system to tell him the status or descriptions of any items he had. And even if he mutated them anyway, he wouldn’t be able to see the effects of the mutation.

This means he wouldn’t be able to test whether his system worked or not.

“In that case...”

He turned his head and focused on his stats window.

The information on the interface was very clear. If he could mutate it, he could immediately see the degree of mutation on the screen!

He quickly opened his personal interface.

As soon as he opened it, a shiny message about mutation appeared.

[ Luck (Innate) — Mutation Potential: Perfect ]

“Just as I thought, I can mutate my own talent!”

Ling Yi clenched his fists in excitement.

“System, I want to mutate my talent!” He said eagerly.

Ling Yi opened his innate talent and looked at the effects.

[Luck (Talent)]: permanently increases luck by 1 point.

Luck was one of the hidden attributes of a player.

However, a mere 1 point wouldn’t make much of a difference.

[Are you sure you want to mutate your luck talent? (Requires 100 mutation points)]

“Oh... Uh...” Ling Yi hesitated. He would have to use up all his points for his first mutation.

However, he quickly made up his mind.

The highest level of mutation potential will definitely be able to give me something good. It might even be my ticket to my success.‘ He thought to himself.

“I’m sure!”

The word “luck” in the talent column immediately blurred on the interface in front of him.

And in a short moment, it turned into two big white words: PROBABILITY REVERSAL.

With excitement and nervousness in his heart, Ling Yi slowly read the description.

[Probability Reversal (talent)]: If the probability of triggering any “probability event” that is beneficial to the user is lower than 50%, the probability of the reversal will be reset to 100% [original probability]. (Note: unless the probability is 0, to begin with)

“Wha... What a great ability!” Ling Yi exclaimed. This was a powerful talent to have!

If the probability of drawing an S-rank item were only 0.5% in his hands, the probability would be reversed to 99.5%!

If the probability were ridiculously low for other people, it would be ridiculously high for him!

“It was worth the point spent!”

Through his first mutation, Ling Yi just realized just how powerful and valuable his Super Mutation System was.

If a single mutation could give him such a powerful ability, he would practically be invincible if he were to mutate things to this level.

From the looks of it, his future path would no longer be hard.

There was even the possibility of being invincible!

“And the next thing I need to do is to wait for God’s Path to open tomorrow.” Ling Yi muttered softly as he looked out the window at the sun slowly sinking behind the clouds.

In this world, there was a saying that if ordinary people wanted to live longer, they shouldn’t go out at night.

Although Ling Yi was now a player, a level 1 player without any skills would be no different from an ordinary person in terms of combat power. It would be just as dangerous for him to go out.
